FROM THE FACULTY DEANS
Nothing, not even a global pandemic, can stop the great tradition of Lowell tea. While we may not be able to serve baked brie, brownies, or tea just the way you like it, we will still be serving up fun conversations all semester long.

Join us this week for a chat with Oliver York! This is a casual and brief event that gives you a chance to get some face time with other Lowellians. We’d love to see you there!

ASK BETH, YOUR HOUSE ADMINISTRATOR

Dear Beth,
What the heck is going on here? I just arrived to campus, finished my quarantine, ate meals of mostly Sunchips, ran out of bottled water, and all the rooms downstairs rooms are locked except the trash room. And I swear I heard rodents running around that room!

Signed, Dismayed in D entryway

Dear Dismayed,
I wish I could say that this is part of some master plan of assimilation but alas it is not.  These are the simply the endeavors of pandemic housing on a college campus in which food preparation and building access remain severely limited.

Perhaps you could view this sequestration as a meditative journey inward and outward: inward to find your zen with sections online at 8am and/or midnight, and outward to venture to water and better provisionings. There are more things available than Sunchips if you diligently examine HUDS foodchoices, and water is something young humans must sometimes find on their own. Though there are faucets nearby.

The trash room is indeed a conglomerate dystopia of barrels and other items, and could seem disheartening if viewed as your sole destination. So, take time in your daily peregrinations to explore the chirping birds in the courtyards, sunrise on the Charles River, or twilight at Tommy's Value store. And be sure to tie securely and deposit your daily trash lest the mice armegeddon escape from that trash room and find their way to you -- they're not wearing masks and they are not a good snack option.

COMMUNITY HEALTH NEWS
We have officially transitioned to unobserved COVID-19 testing. Please follow the collection instructions provided in the blue pamphlet in your test kit packet.  As a reminder, please ACTIVATE your kit online on the color website before you collect your sample. This is very important because it connects your sample, via the barcode, to your profile so that the system accurately reports your results back to you. After you collect your sample, please deposit your test kit in the drop off bin located in the Junior Common Room (JCR), across from the Dining Hall. The JCR is accessible 24/7 for test kit drop-off, but for a quick turnaround of results, please drop off your kit before noon. Please also make sure to SCAN the collection tube’s barcode before you drop it into the drop off bin. Lastly, don’t forget to complete your daily Crimson Clear attestation. Thank you for your continued commitment to keeping our community healthy!

FROM THE LIBRARIAN
Hi Lowell,

I miss the libraries. I've heard that you miss the libraries. Reading and writing and doing problem sets is much more enjoyable and much less lonely when surrounded by others. At this point in Covid, a long night in the library would be the highlight of my week. So! Join me for a virtual library session on Friday, 9/11, from 10am - 12pm ET, where we can work quietly together (though apart). I'll set up a Pomodoro timer so that we can take breaks and hopefully be productive. Here is the link to the Zoom: https://tinyurl.com/y22wszn7 The password is 175982.

I think it might be nice just to feel like someone else is there. This is low pressure - please feel free join with your video off, come late, leave early, stay for 5 minutes, etc. If you have any questions or suggestions, send me an email at sarahjune@fas.harvard.edu

Sarah June
